When I worked at the VA Medical Center we had a patient who guzzled water like it was going out of style. He suffered from what the nurse called "water intoxication." He drank more than the body could use, and it caused a chemical imbalance that made him appear intoxicated. I thought that was interesting.

WOW that's a lot of water!! I sit around doing nothing most of the time, so I drink about five glasses of water per day.

I heard a story about a soccer player who died of water intoxication all of a sudden during a game. I don't remember where I heard it and I have no idea if it's true.

I've read about cases like that, you basically end up diluting your body fluids. He must have been really thirsty to do that to himself.

I know haha. But when youre working your butt off under the hot sun, you seem to be thirsty most of the time haha.

You also need to have salt in your diet to retain some water.

Intense exercise, especially in the hot sun, requires not only water, but salt in your diet. That's also when gatorade comes in.

Too much water is possible, I've done it, but most people don't have to worry about that.

Well then I would say that your body needed it and you were outside and working hard. I still think the body tells us when we need it not pushing all this water like a lot of people on diets do thinking they are going to loose weight .... Hello.

8L is silly, but I still think that the majority doesn't get as much water as they need.

Like Violet said, if this is you, and you one day drink plenty of water, you'll notice it's much easier to be active.

If you don't get enough vitamines/nutrients/protien/carbs/water. It'll be hard to be active and your body will go into a downward spiral. If you want to lose weight, getting more active should come first, not cutting down on food. If you're workign out carbs are more important than protien contrary to popualr belief. IIRC you need like 3x as much carbs as protien. You do need the protien though.

Working out and exercise gets so much easier after you keep doing it, but only if your body is growing from it. And that requires sufficient food. Don't be super active and cut down on food.

If you're not weightlifting, and just running and stuff to lose weight, lots of water to sweat out, and fruits and veggies are the way. The red peppers are the best veggie. I eat them whole all the time.

After weightlifting snack- PButter sandwich on WW or rye.

Breakfast is very important, it's not just a saying. Carbs int he morning so you can use them, no carbs at night or you'll go to bed and they won't get used the way you want them to, they'll be stored.

Sorry to take it from water to diets...

No, he was crazy. That's why he was there. It isn't a Medical Center as much as a MENTAL hospital. We had a saying that, "You don't have to be crazy to work here, but it helps."
