I would like the opinion of those a bit closer to the Evangelical side of things than I am. My question is "Why are so many that call themselves 'Evangelical Christians' so interested in the support and maintnenance of the state of Israel?"

they "were" God's chosen people, but as Jesus alluded to in many parables,
8 “Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9 ‘Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.’ 9 “What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vine-growers, and will give the vineyard to others. 10 “Have you not even read this Scripture: ‘THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; they have been disinherited due to apostasy, and their inheritance given to the Gentiles. I do not dishonor or disrespect Jews. They are in no way different from any other group of non-believers other than their ancient history. |

Because the chosen people rejected Jesus when He came as Messiah, the gospel of Jesus Christ was taken to the Gentiles. The Gentiles do not take the place of God's chosen people. The chosen people of God are still His chosen people. They are not disinherited. It is the same as a wayward child and a loving father. The father still loves his wayward child. At the end of the age, there will be a large number of Jews who accept Jesus as Messiah. God will still use His people, and He loves them with an everlasting love.

That was interesting Dusty. I always wondered about that also. But, I still wonder why did God choose the Jews to be born into? They were so unwilling to believe Jesus was their Messiah, and they didn't appreciate God in the Old Testiment either. They always turned to other gods and idols. Was there a reason for God choosing this people?

Deuteronomy 7:7 says, “The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but because the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers.” The Hebrew word for “few” or “least” is me’at, which means unimposing.

I dont see how anyone can doubt God's plan for the Jews?
We only have to spend 10 mins reading the Word and it is everywhere. His plan for them will be fulfilled, there is no way in the natural Israle could have survived were it not for God's protection, the 1967 six day war is evidence enough. We have to remember we are grafted in, and that we are told to Bless Israel, I think we need to see how much importance God puts on that blessing, He doesnt give us the option to speak against the Jews.

God has not and will not forget His chosen people:
Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. Rom 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. Rom 11:24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. Rom 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. Rom 11:32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

The Israelites were God's chosen people. If they believe in the Christ, they still are. But Israel as a state itself is the Holy Land. When Jesus returns that will be where he reigns upon his Throne.

The Israelites (Jews) are God's chosen people even in their state of unbelief. It is wonderful when any individual is born again but how much rejoicing there must be when one of God's chosen people turns from unbelief to believing salvation in Jesus the Messiah.
