but how do you know when God is talking to you? I mean, sometimes I get little feelings and words but then I don't know if its just my mind creating them or something.. I don't know. I just hear all these wonderful stories of Bible verses being given to people from God and stuff like that, an it would be nice to experience that.
Thanks

Lyssa honey,
it's not stupid. I do believe when God speaks to your heart you have no doubts but feel 100% good about whatever it is. I have just been through that with 2 specific situations in my life. Big things at that. If I were to have had to make the decisions myself, I would have doubted my own judgment. But through prayer, God gave me answers and I feel very good about these things that normally I would have questioned. I have not 2nd guessed on either situation, not once! In my heart, I know it is right and what God planned~ |

Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
When you “exercise your senses”, or… “practice your discernment”, it will get easier to know when it is God or not. I’m not quite like Violet. I hear from God and I know it is God, but sometimes doubt starts to creep in. that’s when I need to take every thought captive, and discern whether it is good or evil. It’s a little more work, but I’m getting better at it. (I hope) Ooopps… there is a good example of doubt. I said I was getting better, and then I said, “I hope”. The doubt came in that quickly. Satan is sneaky sometimes, don’t let him fool you. And if what you hear isn’t in the Word… it’s not from God. God never contradicts himself.

Second I have had a lot of answers to prayer as I read the Word and get a confirmation as certain verses seem to jump out at me and remain with me throughout the day. This is one way that God speaks at least to me. Sometimes as I am contemplating upon doing something and it maybe is not the right thing I will get a unsure or uneasy feeling about it. I believe that is the Holy Spirit telling me to wait.Holy Spirit can and will speak to you as you draw near to Jesus in prayer and the reading of the Holy Bible.

Lord, I ask you to raise Lyssa up, establish her upon firm ground, reveal Yourself to her, Lord. Teach her of Your Wisdom, Understanding, Power, Rest, Joy, Peace, and Contentment. Lead her in paths of Righteousness. Strengthen her to come to you everyday, and sit in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Reward and richley-Bless her for seeking Your face, Lord. In Jesus'-Name, I ask and pray, Amen. Love, Your Sister in Christ, Sable ... in Christ Always ... P.S. For your time with God everyday, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY reccomend a book and devotional titled: "Hind's-Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard, with daily-devotionals by Darien Cooper. The devotionals alone, are the bomb!!! They just really, really spoke to my heart. I think you might be able to find a copy at a Christian book-store, or maybe even Ebay. |

I asked this same question once on this forum. I got so many good replies. Now that I am more into scripture and feeling good about my relationship with God, I find that I just came to "know" that I know when it is God.
I know I have used this illustration before, but it always has worked for me. When my kids worked in banks before, they had to get real familiar with a real $20 bill. They knew that bill so well that when a counterfiet showed up, they immediately knew it. We need to become so familiar with scripture and with God's ways, that when He speaks to us, we will know it's Him. What's that scripture that says "My sheep know my voice" (see, I need to memorize this). So, once you learn all Heavenly Father's ways, you will recognize His voice. If you don't, then maybe it is your voice, or the enemies. Stay in the Word, and you'll go far. Bonnie

Lyssa - don't feel bad. I should have asked this question too a long time ago, like as soon as I joined. I have absolutely no idea, either. It is the most frustrating thing for me at this point I'd say. I think that he speaks through emotions, not words, most of the time, when you are really really intently listening. It's a very quiet and soft communication. There have been some times where I was just ready to throw everything in my life away and stop living. Twice I went to prayer during these very rough times and suddenly, in a split second right after the prayer got this "everything's gunna be alright" type of feeling. My worries vanished and I was calm, focused, and prepared to take care of business.
I've also gone to God several times about my whole college and career situation. Being in my freshman year in college I am a little scared as to which direction my life is going to go. Job? Car? Changing residence? Girlfriend? I have no idea what to do. This is where the frustration comes in. I don't have any answers yet. But God has a plan. I have to wait as long as he wants to find out what it's gunna be.

I get a sense of great love, tranquility and Peace...
Sometimes I get electricity crackling through my body and brain in different degrees... Feelings, however should never go before the Word... Decisions should not be based on feelings in my opinion, but first based according to the Word... And confirmation in the Word, as Dusty says...Or from a trusted other source, like a Christian friend, counselor, or Pastor... I don't mean to say feelings are evil or bad, they are for the most part unreliable... The sense of true Love, tranquility and peace and the words that follow after or during, should always align themselves with what you know about the Lord, Christ and the Holy SPirit though His Word...
