Hello out there,
I'm very new to these forums and it was only earlier today that I encountered this place. After some searching the Internet to find out what atheists believe, that is if they even believe in anything, I ran into a chat on <url snipped> . They were friendly enough but they try to tear apart anything that I present to them, always falling on science, facts and reasoning. Will some of you please go there and help defend the values and beliefs of our Christian faith? I don't know what to say to them when they will only accept belief without faith. I'm at a loss. Thank you for your time, TripleWinter |

Welcome to this site, Triplewinter. As far as atheists go, I spend so much time reading the word of God that I rarely think about them. Maybe that is a sad thing, but I think we all have our callings. I am reaching out to the Mormons though because that is where I have the knowledge. I'm thinking someone on this site has run in to some good sites where you can get some excellent ideas of how to rebut their stances.
But, at this point in my life, I'm trying to understand the Truth so much that I can better argue with untruth. You see, bankers are taught how to learn all they can about the real $20 bill before they can detect a counterfeit one. It works.

There have been many people throughout history who have used logic and reasoning to DEFEND the faith. Look up the names (St.) Thomas Aquinas and (St.) Augustine. Aquinas presented five logical proofs for the existence of God. That might be a good start.

why don't you post some of their arguments if you remember them, and we can give you comments. however, i would warn you of this. it is ok to present a counter argument in a debate, but don't go beyond that. bicker back and forth not only doesn't get you anywhere, but we are specifically told not to do it in the bible. those that you would engage in a back and forth argument like this generally are not going to relent. their hearts have been hardened. simply present your argument and leave it at that. tell them you can't force them to believe anything. there is no point to continue arguing, as they obviously won't listen, so lets talk about another topic. you can be creative in your wording, but make sure they understand you aren't going to play their game and leave them to think about your argument. if you allow them to play their game, it works against you, as they will forget what you say as soon as they try to counter it. in any discussion, the last thing said is remembered by both parties the best.

Do not argue or debate with athiest in a public forum.
It makes you and our LORD look bad before the world and they(the athiest) enjoy it too much. ![]() The scriptures put it this way. . . Mat 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. sincerely Cliff |

We are instructed to go and preach the gospel. We are instructed not to cast our pearls before the swine. We are instructed to be led of the Spirit. If we do the latter the direction on the first two will be clear.
