Default Sponsoring a child?

Are you part of some organization that sponsors children? If yes, which one and if no, would you join one? I have been browsing through Compassion and finding out if they are really good or not. Any suggestions for me? Just thinking of putting whatever extra I get into some sponsorship program. There are too many kids out there who would need our help.

Default Compassion

Yes, I sponsor a little girl through Compassion. I have done that for 2 years now. We exchange letters and share what's going on i our lives. The one thing I like about it is that they automatically deduct the support from my checking account. Also, I know it is a good company because I worked for them when they were stationed in Chicago as a secretary. I think they are now out of Washington. I'm glad to hear you are considering that. It is very worthwhile.

I have sponsored children through Compassion/Tear fund ,and now World Vision.
I think it is an excellent way of sowing into the Kingdom making a real difference to these childrens lives.
One day I hope to visit the child we now sponsor.

I sponsor two children.... one in Malawi through Child Care plus..... through the Penticostal Assemblies of Canada and get reports about my boy and how he is doing in school and how his family is doing.

I also sponsor a child from the Dominican Republic from my missionary friend Richard Brochu. If you are interested please go to his web site http://www.llnm.org/ and you can sponsor a child who is living on the street. The awesome part .... like me is you can visit your child and for me that was a wonderful experience.

I don't sponsor children through organizations, because I never really know where the money is going. In my mind, I don't like to think that my money is being used to purchase office supplies and air-time when it could be helping the child out.

Plus, you hear about scams all the time. There was one that I remember on TV, where the guy collected money for war vets. He was before the government, being questioned, and he had this tone that he deserved his cut of whatever he received. It turned out that this man was keeping 75-cents to every dollar donated to his organization! And it was legal.

Once in a while, he would donate art kits for the vets.

I wish there was an organization out there, though, that would just send me (email is free) the addresses of some kids that need my help. Or better yet, there's kids right here on the reservation who need my help.

I like to help out where and when I can - but I want to make sure that I'm getting something into the mouths of the kids and not buying ad-time or paying executive's salaries.

It's good to help out.

I can understand that D. What I like about Compassion International is that I get to correspond with the child I am helping. We get pictures, thank you's and lotsa love- it is really cool!
