I recently heard this from my Worship leader at Church and just done a little bit of research.

Jesus was whiped 39 times, He had 39 lashes on His body.

According to the Bible, the 39 lashes that Jesus received before being
crucified were on behalf of our healing:

"He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might
die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been
healed."
1 Peter 2:24

"...we know that Jesus took 39 stripes before they crucified him.
There are 39 categories of diseases known to man."

Coincidence, hell no!

Isn't that awesome!

I heard it said once that 40 lashes was sure death.
Just a side note there.

OH, yeah! It is my understanding from everything I've read and heard, that the Romans had punishment and torture down to a fine art. That they discovered that the average man would die at 40 lashings. So they would bring the punishee to the edge of death. And it wasnt a nice, smooth, bull whip, either. This was more like the Cat-o-nine-tails with lots of ends with barbs and hooks on them. (shudder) They were pretty gruesome back in those days, huh?
