Indeed, He paid a price beyond imagination out of His love for us. The ark of the covenant contained the 10 commandments and Aaron's rod. Sitting on top of the ark was the mercy seat.The blood was to be applied to the mercy seat for God to meet with man. When the blood of the lamb was applied God's mercy overshadowed the law and God manifested His glory and spoke with man.
The same is true today. We are covered by the blood of the Lamb of God Jesus Christ and God's mercy covers all legal claims against us. This makes the way clear for God and man to meet.
Also the blood (sacrifice) had to be applied before the anointing oil (Holy Spirit) could touch a person. No blood = no oil. No Jesus = no Holy Spirit.
