You mean the feeling like when your zipper is down or you have a booger hanging from your nose? And everyone is giving you odd looks, and trying not to smile?
Or do you mean the feeling like if everyone knows you are about to be fired, or your spouse is cheating and so everyone avoids you, cuts conversation short, acts uncomfortable around you, and whispers behind your back? I often have the feeling that no one knows anything about me. ![]() |

Depending on the circumstances, I would say it may be part paranoia, part guilt, part grandiosity.
All I know is it isn’t all about me. Who am I to think other people are thinking about me. Who am I? I’m just another guy. Hey… I’m a poet… and I didn’t even know it.

Hmmm… I wonder if everyone is thinking I’m weird for saying that?
(I’m starting to get a little paranoid now.)

There was a psychological study once..... I don't know the source. I heard about it in a class about 10 years ago, so if I have it all wrong, then forgive me. LOL Anyhow, this study had someone walk into a crowded room wearing a certain t-shirt that would be embarrassing. Then after that, they asked the person how many people they thought were staring at them. And of course, people always thought that everyone was, because they were focused on their embarrassing shirt. Then they asked people in the room questions about the person in the shirt. And they found that really no one noticed.
The point was that we tend to think that others are staring at us, when in fact they often are not. People are so wrapped up in themself, that they think everyone else is also wrapped up in them--- when in reality everyone else is also wrapped up in themself. |
