Default Do I belong?

With all due respect, from what I've read and the answers given to my posts, and others, aren't of the grade I was expecting. The questions I've asked assumed I haven't read Scripture, never mind the study there of.
I don't believe you can sit down and do a read through without the help of Greek and Hebrew Dictionaries, at least 5 Commentaries, a Concordance, and a Bible dictionary in the arsenal. Plus a preist.
I d not adhere to a fundamentalist's view. Which for some is fine, but not me, it simply does not address the many layers in which God's word is to be read. It's too black and white and limited.
Am I right about this site's viewpoints, because I'll find some place else.

Hello Diana~
I'm not sure what your viewpoints are exactly~
I'm not sure I understand your ideas on studying the scriptures.
If we cannot understand most of God's written word without all the aide, I hate to think where the less fortunate stand~
Some are lucky to own just a Bible~

But I welcome you and hope you find something you are searching for here~
God Bless~
Love,
Violet

Diana.... Where is the post that you put that you are referring to?

I welcome you as another Torontonian and Canadian.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to express my dear. But God's Word to me is alive and sometime yes , I do need to look up words and also refer to different Bibles , like the NIV ,King James , NCV or NKJV.

I do not also understand what you mean by the site's viewpoints as we are all Christians here and able to express ourselves in various ways without being argumentative or pushing our denominational beliefs to the forefront.

Hello dianalmoth
I remember a while back, I didn’t like the KJV. I just couldn’t understand anything.
Then one day, (I believe it‘s when I finally yielded to the Holy Spirit) it all made sense.
Look at who Jesus chose to be his apostles.

Act 4:13 But seeing the boldness of Peter and John, and perceiving that they were unlearned and uneducated men, they marveled. And they recognized them, that they had been with Jesus.

They were unlearned and uneducated men. But they had the Holy Spirit and faith. That is way more important than the things you mentioned. With all that stuff, I would think you might be reading the Bible as a text book. It’s not a text book. Try reading it as a real long love letter from God. And don’t forget… a lot of the Bible is written symbolically. Just ask God to tell you what something means. It may mean something different for you than for me. Does that mean one of us is wrong and the other is right? Not necessarily.

And you talk about the many layers in which God’s word is to be read…
I agree with that, but for me? I’m only going to read one layer at a time. When I’m ready for the next layer, God will let me know. I’m not ready to understand everything yet.

And I think the most important thing I’ve learned about the Bible and “study” is this. There are only two verses I know of that use the word “study” as we think of the word “study.”

Ecc 12:12 And further, from these, my son, be warned; the making of many books hath no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
1Th 4:11 and to study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we did command you,

A warning of too much study and study to be quiet. God never tells us to “study” the Bible.
We can examine the Scripture, and be diligent in our reading and meditation, but “study”? That is better suited for school and text books when you want to get a good grade. With God… there is no grade. It’s a pass or fail course.

And as far as do you belong?
I think you do and I hope you stay.

Blessings
Dean

By the way. Everything I say is my own opinion. After all… Who am I… to judge others?

Pardon the pun.

Well in all honesty I don't think any of us can expect everyone to agree with them. For myself and many others here there is but one compass to follow and that being the Word of God as breathed upon by the Holy Spirit of God.
People here certainly do not always agree with me but they are intelligent, caring and well thought out in their posting. If someone seems to contradict biblical doctrines as they understand them it is perfectly reasonable and logical to find if that person is rooted and grounded in God's Word. That is not an insult and as I have read all your posts I cannot recall anyone being less than amiable and we certainly do not exist to meet each others expectations. We are called to speak the truth in love. Disagreement is normal. There are certainly a wise variety of opinions here as this forum encompasses people from all over the globe and with many different backgrounds.
So all that being said I come to this point - what is it specificaly that is troubling you? What specificaly is your complaint? If I can help in anyway please let me know. And please understand this, whatever your decision is you are loved in Jesus Namr here. Your brother in Christ, Larry.

The Word of God is Jesus.
It is relationship with Him through the power of the Holy Spirit that reveals scripture to us, not studying it through and through.
There is nothing wrong with study, providing it doesnt take the place of relationship with God.

I may be wrong but I suspect that you must be talking about your thread Is the Devil Real.
I have re- read that thread and all I see is members, myself included, having an honest attempt to answer your question from scriptiure.
You then placed a post where you seem to question scripture so I asked you if you believe that the Holy Scriptures, in it's original form, is the inerrant Word of God.
Violet responded to your post
I don't take the Bible and face value it has to be understood within the context the: Narrative Prophetic Gospel Law Poetry Wisdom Letters Apocalyptic by asking a very reasonable, in, my opinion, question.
She said I am curious what is left for you to believe?
You have not chosen to answer our questions so to be honest I really do not understand this thread.
We want to be supportive and helpful but as a Christian forum we work within the bounds of our agreed statement of Faith. This is something all members agree to before joining.

What's amazing is this: God gave you the right to have an opinion, it's wonderful! Rejoice in it.

But along with me having the right to an opinion...someone else has just as much right to an opinion that might not agree with mine.

That's fine! That's the glory of colors, the different shades all of our minds are blessed with.

If you can find a site where everybody agrees with what you're saying, come back and let me know, okay? Hee hee hee...I have a few opinions that I wouldn't mind other people sharing.

God bless you, dianol - you're doing okay!

That's quite interesting -- needing aids and commentaries. I would think that would make the Word of God all that more confusing. But when the heart rings true and we see what God says without these helps, I believe that is Truth, too. Our little Star got her education at Fruitland, and she is a Bible scholar. I have never seen her use anything but her Bibles and the huge Strong's Exhaustive Concordance her parents gave her for her high school graduation gift. She has her worn-out KJV Bible she has had since she was knee-hi to a grasshopper and the Women's Devotional Bible (NIV) we gave her a few years ago. Her heart and her mind are filled with God and she follows Him, and she is one of those folks who don't need aids and all that.
Perhaps it's a gift, perhaps some people need more than the Bible, we are all different. I would like to ask, what exactly is not up to your expectations? Are you a Bible scholar, as educated as she is? This is quite puzzling to me.
But we are all different, and I keep coming back to that.
Peace and blessings,
Joyce
