I know some here are open source developers and some non-open source therefore I need answers from both parties.
If I create application software and if the source codes for that software are copy righted to me I would not distribute the source codes. By withholding the source codes I will be withholding information and knowledge about the internal workings of that software. By withholding source codes will I be committing sin? |

Leonidus; God expects us to take care of ourselves and our families. in 1 Timothy 5:8 (NLT), we are reminded, "8 But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers."
Therefore, if your hard work to provide for yourself and your family would be lessened by supplying coding information for your Application Software, don't do it. God is fair. He gave you the intelligence to do specific work and expects you to do those things that will properly provide for your family's needs. There is no sin in following God's orders to us as mentioned above in 1 Timothy 5:8 (NLT). |

No it is not wrong.
It is your hard work and you do not need to give it away.

While it is certainly not wrong do not sin against your conscience. Wrong or not if you think it is and do it anyway then you have violated your conscience and that is sin before God. Do all with a clean heart.

Listen to your heart, little buddy.
![]() Ask yourself truly why you want to hang onto the source code? Is it for money or fame? Is it for pride? With this great gift God has given you, you can do so many wonderful things if you handle it in the right way. You'll know the right way, I know you will. If I built a house with my own blood and sweat and tears, sure! I'd want to have the right to say who can stay there and who can't. It's my house. I do invite whoever needs a place to stay into my home, and I don't expect rent from them. But at the same time, I don't allow people to come into my home that I built and begin making rules for me to live by. My nails (given to me by God), my house. Your source code is your nail. You can build great things with it. God gave you the ability to gain this knowledge, free of charge. He's watching out for you that way. He wuvs you, Leon! ![]()
