Good evening,
One of my struggles that I have is I am a divorced mom. My 15 year old daughter moved to NY with me when she was 11. She missed her school and her dad and she moved back with her dad. There are so many things I struggle with in my mind. I miss her terribly each day and I worry about her each day. I also have a 23 year old son, who just graduated from college, and a 20 year old son still in college. I was born and raised Lutheran and raised my kids in the Lutheran church. As my faith walk continues, I realize it is not so important as to what religion one is, but what is important is one's own relationship with God. My kids are not currently actively going to church. I am not even sure they are praying on a daily basis. We all have verizon cell phones and are "in the network", but we still do not communicate as much as I would like. Tonight, I decided to start a daily email to my kids called Daily Wisdom from Mom. Each day will be a short note as to what is going on in my life and will include a bible verse. Does anyone else have any thoughts on how to encourage and strenghen my kids faith from a distance? Thanks! Faithwoman |

I think it is an excellent idea, and as the mother of some grown kids I know how hard it can be to watch them choose ways we wouldnt have chosen.
I think yiu are doing a good thing. To lay it on too heavy would only cause resentment. I also pray scripture over my children. I have included a couple of examples. Just when you pray speak the words over your children, the Word of God os powerful and active and accomplishes that which God sends it forth to do. Isaiah 43: 6I will say to the north, Give up! and to the south, Keep not back. Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth-- Acts 26 18To open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may thus receive forgiveness and release from their sins and a place and portion among those who are consecrated and purified by faith in Me.(C) |

Faithwoman -
Good luck to you in your noble endeavor. My only input is to remind you that many children, especially kids who have experienced family related hardships, do often have a crisis of faith, however temporary. PLEASE DON'T HOLD IT AGAINST YOURSELF!!! It's obvious that you are a strong and spiritual woman, and your children, even when they stray, will surely return to the path. If you can do one thing for your kids let them know how much they are loved. Let them know that no matter what they go thru in life they can count on this- that mom will allways love them and Jesus will allways love them. Let them know that He is with them always, interested in sharing every detail of their lives. It is this love that will draw them close to His heart.
I pray the Holy Spirit guide your Words and steps. Your brother in Christ, Larry. |
