Hey guys,
Im new to the forum and this is my first thread..The other day me and my friend were having an argument in the car about there being a punishment for sin that we commit.... Yes i know that Jesus died on the cross so that we might have forgiveness for our sins..But is there a punishment for every sin we commit...Im talking about breaking any of the 10 commandments... For e.g If a young christian woman knowing that adultery is wrong goes and looses her virginity with her bf before marriage, regardless of whether her bf is a christian or not (that does not matter)...It is a sin i know that?? But if she asks for forgiveness she is forgiven but isn't there a punishment that she has to go through on earth.. The Bible teaches us that there is a consequence for every sin that we commit on earth...I even heard Ps Benny Hinn say that God will 4give you but there is a punishment on earth for your sin. Although when you die and go to heaven your sins are remembered no more..My friend disagrees with this?? I he right or am I?? Thanks Jake |

If you truly repent and turn from sinful ways you will be forgiven. God knows the heart and nothing is hidden. As far as punishment on earth for sins we commit I would say sure.
If you give yourself freely before marriage it could lead to many things that you could suffer through. Maybe you get impregnated and you have to suffer finiancially and the relationship with the father of the child begins to go south or ends because of stress. Maybe you this does not happen, but you get infected with something (punishment). God will not cause these things to happen, but sometimes it is the price (punisment) we pay for going against warnings that are given form the Creator. Our Heavenly Father knows what is good for us and He also knows what is bad for us. If we choose to be rebelious we cannot complain if there is a down side. Keeping you in prayer Jake.

Sin, by its very nature, has consequences. I believe God built those in for the purpose of disincentive and discipline. Or perhaps I should put it this way, He doesn't give us immunity to the natural consequences of sin for the purpose of disincentive and discipline. God's forgiveness means we are not subject to His wrath. Let's look at it another way. Even though Christ bought physical wholeness and eternal life for me on the cross, it still hurts and leaves a bruise when I bark my shins. This body will still die, should the Lord tarry. Glory to God, the day will come when I leave behind this body with all of its achey knees, kidney stones, emotional scars, and shame. My new body will be a reflection of God's glory with not so much as a whiff of my former sin. The consequences of sin, for the believer under grace, are as temporal as his mortal existence.

Thanks guys for the replies...I knew that there was a punishment for sin, but God forgives you..Its just that its soo hard to explain to my friend. He just does not want to accept the truth. He is a Christian btw and has been saved for 14+ years. I even showed him proof verses in the bible and he still wont accept it..
I know he has had a hard childhood and all that and i do accept that and understand it. Is there anyway i could go about explaining to him? Also what would be the best way to go around it? Any help is greatly appreciated.... Thanks again ![]() |

Xcortman, what exactly do you want the Holy Spirit to open his eyes and heart to? Share with us what you would like to get across to him. Is it that sin has a price, or sin can be forgiven, or both?

Ezekiel 18:26-28 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. SIN ...... Freedom07,
Thanks for those links...Indeed there are many instances in the Bible where God talks about forgiveness of sins and punishments... Another story that keeps coming to my head, is when David committed adultery with Bathsheba and the punishment that he had to face was the death of his son... Isn't that sad..So i guess that proves to me that there is a punishment.. |
