Hi all!
For almost a year now I've been smoking cigarettes in my car and out with friends. I don't drink or do any drugs, and i'm old enough now to buy them at the store. I know its bad for me but i just wanted to know if it was against god or not. thanks |

Well, the Bible tells us not to let our bodies be mastered by anything, and tobacco is very addictive and damaging to your health. So, yes, it is a sin.
But I smoke, I'm a heavy smoker. Nasty terrible habit. But it is no less forgivable than any other sin. I don't want to sound like a hypocrite. But smoking is a sin, in my opinion. It damages your body, and the Holy Spirit lives in us, therefore our bodies are a temple. We should honor our bodies for that reason. This of course is my opinion. Everyone will have their own. |

Yeah, take my word for it. It starts with just having a cigarette or two with a friend and then before you know it, it's a pack a day.
I hate the day I ever touched a cigarette. Take my advice and stop smoking. It's more addictive than you think it is. |

I smoke about two cigarrettes a month. I guess I have more self-control then the average person/male. |

1) Your body is a temple of the holy spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:19 says: “. . . Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?” 2) Smoking is a bondage. God doesn't like bondage. Exodus 6:6 says: "Therefore say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the LORD; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments."

Smoking is a rotten weak habit. It stinks, it destroys your life. Yes! It is against God, by smoking it ruins a gift that was given in love from God, LIFE! It is a terrible thing that we should degrade and pollute the temple where God dwells. I have smoked for 33 years and yes I do smoke at the present time, but through the strength of Jesus I am quitting in 2 weeks. Yes I guess I could quit right this moment, but I gave myself a deadline because something will be taking place in 2 weeks this is why I sent this time.

You are in no position to deman anything from anyone. By your logic, freedom07, we might as well stop breathing. Oxygen is a poison to us. It slowly kills our organs, forces us to loose the elasticity in our skin which causes wrinkles.
Or even eating, because eating can lead to gluttony, which is a sin. And since we are the Body of Christ it wouldn't be fitting for non-christians to see christians as fat-bodies who breath heavily. |
