A member of the church once told me that smoking was one of the non-deadly sins.

I'm a smoker. But my advice is...don't start! Please! I've tried to quit like six times in my life, only making it to about 3 months without a cancer stick. Now I just take it as a part of me.

It's really hard to stop (easy to start) and it's scary when you're thinking about cancer and you realize that you have a ticket in that lottery game.

God bless.

Adressed in scripture or not there is a high price to pay for smoking. The average smoker loses 10 years off their lifespan and after seing the results up close and personal the misery of slow suffaction is not worht it.

Did you pray to the Lord to help break the chains of bondage ?

Funny I revisted this thread today. My mom who has never smoked called me this evening , her Doctor told here she has mild emphysema. My dad smoked for 40 years and died of this terrible disease. He has been gone for years now but all that exposure to second hand smoke has claimed yet another victim. Please pray for her, I have seen what this stuff does to you and it is not pretty.

Hopefully I have a sane idea for once:

While You are still smoking, make sure You visit

places where smoke already exists because of

other smokers, and since it won't bother You,

pass out Bible Tracts, and witness the gospel to

them, and witness to them while You are still

wanting to quit, but are being usefull in the

meanwhile, and maybee the Devil will let you go

real quick in relation to that bad habit, to get

You out of those places quick,

And if every smoking believer follows Your

example, and all get to quit, and take some

newly saved believers out with them also, then

everyone wins,

And the Devil can kick himself for getting

Christians addicted to cigarettes in the first

place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just like that.....so I had to quote it. It's actually funny that you posted that. I smoke and have for years. I've thought about quitting but thats all it was.....a thought. The only time i've really ever felt bad is when a group of my church family and I passed out tracks. I went around the side of the building away from everyone and some ppl walked up and I had tracks in my hand and really wanted to give them one but felt bad because they had seen me smoking. I just dropped my cigg and handed them the track.

Later that day a friend and a fellow church member who was there passing out tracks with me was talking about how God is really laying a heavy conviction on her heart to quit but that she was having a hard time letting them go.

I personally think God must dissaprove of smoking along with all the things prevously mentioned. How could he not? But then again I think you also have to go on your convictions. I dont know if any of you have ever heard "we catch them and God cleans them up". He'll take it away from you when He's ready but when He is ready and He is convicting you then you need to obey.

I do know how you feel. I truly do. My thing is i'm just afraid of not having them. I dont think its the addiction to nicotine that gets me really, its the thought of not being able to go have a smoke when I want and wondering what do I do with myself. I think thats just something you really need to pray about and let God deal with it. Good luck.

Much Love and God Bless,
Nikki!

While I do not disagree with what you said, here, I'm looking deeper into it. If smoking is a sin because it shortens life, isn't taking the chance of driving a sin? Skydiving? Flying? How about not exercising? Eating too much?

It's like anything could be a sin, expecially living here in 2008. So many things we do could be harmful to our bodies, and we don't even realize it.

Where do we draw the line?

I think that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and we should do our best to look after it with whatever knowledge we have.
We also know that the major componant of tobacco is nicotine which is as addictive as heroin, so to me whilst smoking may not in itself be sin, to be in bondage to something, in this case an addictive drug, is.

Here is my story with smoking.
I did it for thirty years. But, in those years, I watched and held the hand of my mother, sister and love of my life while their lives were slowly ebbing away from lung cancer.
I also lost a grandmother, grandfather and an aunt to smoking.
I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict.
I can say this......smoking is NOT given to us by God!
The destruction it brings to lives can only come from one place....the one who came to KILL, ROB (your health, money and right standing with God) and DESTROY! The destroyer is a LIAR and it's NOT ok to smoke in my opinion.
I wanted to quit for many years before I was able.

When I really asked God to help me quit......
He showed me two hands. In one was all my dreams, hopes and "future" and in the other was a pack of smokes.
He very FIRMLY and DIRECTLY (almost with anger) said, "You may have the contents of ONE of these hands but you may NOT have both. YOU CHOOSE!"
That was that.
I used patches, prayer, mints, gum and then every single time I wanted a smoke which was a LOT, I would simply DO something else..
Haven't smoked in two years.
