![]() Well, had a fire call before I could go to my dentist appt. Had it rescheduled for later this afternoon. Now, my dentist is gonna have to smell smoke while he is working on me! ha! Poor guy, my hubby uses him, too, so he ought to be used to it by now!

Hey, Granny! Sorry, it was too late to save the tooth! The only thing left of it was the root and one wall, very thin on the inside (the side next to the tongue) Nothing left to save. He is going to try to save the rest of my teeth by cleaning, fillings and who knows what else. Its all my fault, I neglected them terribly. (brushed, but no floss, no regular cleaning, etc) So its going to be a long haul, but it's going to be ok! Thanks for the advice, though!

Hi all! You're posting so much that I'm left way behind! *sob!*
GrannyG, my dentist has been saving my teeth for years via root canals, then pins or a post, and builds a 'tooth' on top of that. Because of my ill-health my teeth got all brittle and just break to pieces. He's even redone a tooth where there was nothing left above the gum. I call him my scupter extraordinaire (as well as dentist)! I now only eat things that don't require hard chewing, or another couple of teeth are likely to go! All of this fussing is necessary as I'm too ill to have teeth pulled - would so affect my nervous system and psyche that it could actually cause my death. I've already had a collapse in the chair once that took me to hospital on oxygen! So because he cares so much I still have a mouth full of teeth - tho by now, strictly speaking, few of them are actually 'my own'! Feelin' a bit sorry for you, Fluffy!!

I hear ya, Bondman! Being in that chair is STRESS-FULL! I can see how someone could have a collapse in it. Even though I was right on the edge of pain, (he had numbed it pretty good [my lib is num-med!]) it was still very stressful and I wouldnt wish that on ANYBODY! And I DONT want to go thru that again! So I am going to follow my dentist's orders to the letter and get my teeth worked on. It'll be a little at a time because of finances, but it will be well worth it. Hubby has had several teeth pulled and its routine for him. But then, he has a high pain/stress tolerance and bad teeth to begin with. He is looking forward to dentures. I'd like to keep my own, thank you.

I am almost 69 and have all but 1 of my teeth and it is all because of regular visits to the dentist from the time I married at 18. I have crowns on all the back teeth and know there are a couple that they are watching closely. It is expensive but worth it to have your own teeth. Yes, I have a couple that had nothing above the gum line, too. Posts, etc. Fluffy, hang onto what you have.
As a child we only went to the dentist when our teeth hurt and our dentist didn't believe in cleaning teeth. I also have a few bad experiences I recall, but today it is so much better. Not pain free, but so-o-o-o much better.

Yes, I want to keep as many of my teeth as I can. I am being hired by my husband to help him move his office next week, and I will use that money to help pay for my dental work. Ten dollars and hour! yay! After he signs the papers, we will have 10 days to move. whew! He has alot of stuff! My husband is the 9-1-1 director for the county AND the volunteer fire chief, so you can imagine the stuff he has! I also clean his office once a week, and I am looking forward to a smaller space to clean! hee!
On a more serious front, fire season is gearing up pretty strong. Once again, I want to remind people that live in the suburbs, or out in the country to clean up around your properties! Cut down the grass really short, clear out the brush and stuff that has accumulated around. Cut fire breaks around your property if you can. You wont beleive how much that will help firefighters to protect your house! We had a fire yesterday that was pretty wild. There is a horse ranch out to the east of us. They have a ranch house, barns, stables and horse pens, then there is a drop off waaaaaay down to a valley behind all of that. A fire broke out in the valley, and the wind was up and pushed the fire up the dropoff. We got to it just as it was cresting and made a stand, keeping the fire off the buildings. They had lots of concrete pads, driveways and stuff, and they had also cut the grass really close and had cleared out alot of brush from away from their property. We saved their buildings, but it was a fight! For the first 30 minutes it was just 3 trucks and 5 people trying to fight off this fire. For quite awhile, I was by myself! But I prayed for strength and protection and a determination filled me that the fire would NOT get past a certain point! My husband showed up about then and helped me but I KNEW that if it got close enough, I was able to handle it by the grace of God! ![]() We are expecting wind gusts up to 70 mph today. Please pray that there are no fires today, and for protection of our firefighters! ![]()

Fluffy - have you read the Dee Henderson books? Your posts about fire fighters, 911, etc. make me think of them. She paints wonderful word pics (and good fiction, too) of our firefighters, and others in public service.
