One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.' The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?'The old Cherokee simply replied, 'The one you feed.'

Received the above in an email. I liked it and wanted to share it.

Default Twelve Little Bowls of Chili

Fluffy,
I wrote this after my street ministry last week and thought I would share it with you.

Twelve Little Bowls of Chili
Honestly, if you would have told me a year ago, I would be on the streets of Batavia, NY helping others, I would have thought you crazy!
The Lord has blessed me so much in this past year. He has continued to lead me and guide me. Tonight the bus headed out to the city streets. As we pulled up and started unloading the tables which would hold the clothes, the folks started coming down the street. Kids of all ages started appearing before the bus.

Bridgette had cooked up a big pot of chili. The kids climbed on the bus. Paul and Shawn were busy scooping out the chili. These kids were just as cute as buttons. I honestly do not know where they get all their energy. We had 3 women from the Cooperative Extension office that joined us tonight. As they were busy handing out groceries, I found myself busy chatting with the kids. This one little guy eagerly ate his bowl and wanted seconds, and then he wanted cookies. Little cartons of chocolate milk were handed out to the kids. Remember the ones we use to get when we were little in school?

I realized as they started eating we had all forgotten something. I told them “hold on a minute, we forgot something”. They just looked at me. I said we forgot to pray. I asked them all to hold hands and then we prayed and thanked God for the food and for the bus and for the friendships we all had. There was something else they all needed and were looking for. What is this you ask? My reply to you- love. You could tell that they all just needed love. They need our love. They need God’s love.

At the end of the evening, there was this little gal Brianna. Her head was filled with beautiful braids. She sat on my lap. Next thing you know we were skipping down the sidewalk hand in hand making shadow angels. I walked her home. As I climbed back on the bus, there was a surprise waiting for me. Donna who has been a friend of the ministry for years was there waiting to show me her bible. It was a special bible. You see it was a bible written in Braille. I would never have guessed she was totally blind. She has been since she was young. Care-A-Van blessed her with this special bible a few years ago.
Our bible comes in one book, but this Braille bible had eighteen books!

I encouraged the children to come to Sunday school. I handed them flyers that we have on the bus with the phone number. Many of them have been there before. I heard one young gal say we should all go together. This is what God asks of us. Go forth together and serve others, show them my love.

You see twelve little bowls of chili, showed a lot of love tonight. Those bowls fed the belly, but our love fed their hearts. At the end of the evening, the kids were hi fiving me.
The parting with little Brianna stated it all- she taught me to do this little peace sign with my fingers. I shared back with her; when we do this, let it be God’s peace sign. She came running up gave me this big hug that just warmed my heart.

As you read this, may the peace of our Lord be with you! He is an awesome God we serve!

OH Robin! What a wonderful example of "Go Ye"! You definitely went and did and blessed some wonderful people in ways that will touch them, forever. You have planted seeds that will sprout and grow! Hallelujah!

Keep sending me these! Love 'em!

Default A Little Comfort

Here's this week's happenings:

Alright, so maybe they were not fresh out of mom’s oven, but they sure did bring great comfort and smiles to the students we delivered them to. What is that you ask? The Care-A- Van team headed out to the local college dorms this evening. The bus was overflowing with boxes of cookies.
I can still hear Elder Ron’s voice booming throughout the halls. As he knocked his strong voice echoed through the halls-“Care-A-Van Ministries here.” One team took one side of the building and the other team took the other side.
As the doors opened, we let them know that we were there because we cared.
We shared a brochure of the ministry, a Thanksgiving gospel track and a big box of cookies with each room.
Many answered their doors with their cell phones attached to their ear. Several of the rooms were busy cooking dinner. We tried to guess at one room what they were having. Paul of course chimed in with his guess of Ramen Noodles. How many of you remember those college days when you lived on ramen noodles served with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Paul became quite the barter with the boxes of cookies. He even tried to trade the box of cookies for a bike that sat in the living room.
At the last door, two young men opened the door. The one had a cooking utensil in his hand. This room was blessed with a chef! They were cooking chicken wings. We tried to ask them what time dinner would be ready and that we would stop back. I think the classic of the night is when this young woman answered the knock. I explained that we were there because we cared and had a special gift for them. I turned around to allow Paul and Shawn to present the cookies. Well, it was not cookies that Paul had in his hand.
He stood there with an old sink he found sitting in the hall!
The most touching knock came at an apartment filled with young men. As we turned around to leave, the young gentleman named Matt asked if we could pray with him. He had gotten a call from his father that his mom had to have surgery. Talk about a blessed moment! We prayed and asked for healing for his mom and for the Lord to strengthen him and give him comfort and support while he was miles away from his family. The whole scene touched my heart. Here was a young man who was miles from home and needed comfort. As we walked away, I silently prayed that the other young men sitting in the room heard our prayer as well.
We had a special young girl that came out with her dad to help deliver the cookies. Sarah is such a pretty little girl. Here was a young gal that one day whose future may find her miles from home in a similar situation as these college students. Her father is helping build her foundation of the love of Christ and how that love can be shared.
To often in life we get caught up in the busyness of our daily lives. How refreshing it was to take an evening and share some comfort with these young folks.
As we presented the cookies, many of the students would reach in to take just one package. We explained they got the whole box. “Really?” many of them said as their eyes met ours. “Yes, really we replied”. The thought that comes to my mind is that God’s gift for us is the whole package. He readily offers to us the whole package of salvation. Not just a piece, not just a part but all the promises and gifts that come with turning our lives and hearts to him. Now that my dear folks is priceless! Just as those cookies were free tonight, so is our salvation. Just as the company that sent the cookies to our ministry to share, God sent his son to share with each and every one of us. Praises to Creative Creations for their donation and praises to our Lord Jesus who gave his life for us.

Default Our Daily Bread

OUR DAILY BREAD
Our Father Who Art in Heaven, Hallowed by thy name, they Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread……..

It was a brisk cold day on State street today. As the bus pulled along side the road, there were already folks waiting. The ministry team got busy setting up the tables. I had the honor and blessing of working inside the bus today. Thank you Paul! I was prepared though to be out in the cold. My body was layered with thermal underwear, jeans, snow pants, boots gloves and a head band. Now how could I ever think that I would be cold doing the Lord’s work?. After all he provides warmth and comfort for all of us.

Each family is blessed with 2 bags of groceries and a gallon of milk. The biggest blessing we get to give is prayer. Today, we fed 42 of God’s families. All but 10 of them either asked or were open for prayer from Bridget and I. As we were busy inside the bus, the rest of the team was out in the cold elements of the weather, providing love, prayer, encouragement and support to folks on the street.

So many times in my life I prayed the Lord’s prayer. As my Christian walk has strengthened, I understand now whatA” Give us this day our daily bread” truly stands for. It is through the daily bread of life that our Lord gives us that enables us to keep going each and every day. None of us need to go hungry. As we turn, trust and have faith in the Lord he provides for our all our physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Today as Care-A-Van Ministries provided physical daily bread and food for the body, the Lord was right there providing the spiritual bread that all needed. Portals of prayer devotions were slipped into each bag with hope and prayer that the folks would find that they are comforted and cared for each and every day.

I found it odd today that the last woman in line did not want the bread or the other groceries. She only wanted cereal and soup. She was pretty picky about what she wanted. I thought to myself “ This is unreal, how can someone be like this and be so particular when this food is free. However, what she did want was the real bread. She wanted prayer. She knows deep in her heart what the true bread of life is and what it does for one’s soul. This same woman shows up almost every Saturday at the end of the day and has prayer with the team.

Ok, so it was at that moment, that God’s lesson of the day came to me. I had to ask for forgiveness for my thoughts. For you see, are there not days that we all become a little particular for what we want from God? Do we all not maybe become a little demanding of people or things in our life? May we all remember that our great Lord does truly provide for our Daily Bread. Praises to our Lord for another safe, encouraging and loving day for Care-A-Van Ministries.

My favorite part was "the biggest blessing we get to give is prayer".
Isnt that the truth?
So many times, people say "All we can do is pray". Like its a last resort thing!
And I also liked that you see it as a privelege and an opportunity to pray. Love it!
