I like reading about early Christians.

Their life, faith, love and sufferings for the Lord encourage me to follow their example...

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.
(Hebrews 13:7).

I would like to share some stories with you.

(Please, excuse me for my mistakes in English, I translate them from Russian into English)

Sufferings of Martyr

Vadim the Priest

In the time of Persian king Sapor the Great who reigned from 310 till 381 the priest Vadim and 7 of his disciples were taken to prison.

Vadim was a very rich man but then he handed out all his wealth to the poor and needy and dedicated himself to serve God in grace and truth. He was a man leading by God’s wisdom and his blameless life was a good example for other Christians in Persia. He kept himself from every evil deed, pride and sin. But God’s truth, piece and fruits of righteousness filled his heart so that it was impossible for other people not to notice it.

During 4 months this man of God and his disciples were in prison and every day they were beating there. But they overcame them with patience being encouraged by hope and faith in God.

In those days the ruler of that town was Nirsan who had been a Christian first. When he had been forced to worship the sun like a god, he didn’t want to deny Christ and was put to prison for it. But then he failed in his faith, became week in his spirit, being frightened by promised torments. Nirsan agreed to fulfill all king’s orders to save his life.

Sapor the King was glad to hear Nirsan’s decision. Then he remembered about priest Vadim who was in prison and he said to his servants: “If Nirsan kills Vadim with his own hands, he will be freed from prison and will get all Vadim’s inheritance”.

So Vadim was brought to Nirsan who took a sword and was ready to kill God’s servant. But as soon as he saw Vadim, he was terror-stricken and couldn’t move. Then Vadim said to him: “Nirsan, how could it happen that you not only deny Christ, but you even dare to kill His servants? Woe to you! How will you appear to the Lord’s judgment to give the answer to the eternal God? I’m ready to die for my Christ, but I wouldn’t like to receive death from your hands”.

Nirsan wasn’t ashamed by those words but at the same time he couldn’t fulfill the king’s order, as he was standing in fear. At last he stoned his heart and stabbed with a sword into the martyr’s neck. But as his hands were trembling, he couldn’t kill him with one blow and only after several stabs he cut the priest’s head.

All standing there people were surprised by the martyr’s patience and laughed at the killer like a coward. Some time later Nirsan committed suicide because of the mental sufferings.

When God’s servant Vadim died for his faith, his body was thrown outside the city. But Christians took his body and buried it with honor. Seven Vadim’s disciples stayed at the prison for 4 years till the King Sapor’s death. Then they were freed and allowed to profess Christian faith.

Thanks once again for this present reading . Truly we do not know in this present day about people who went to the extreme for their faith.

God Bless,
Love your sister,
