– Gossipers would stop talking! – Liars would stop lying! – Cheaters would stop cheating! – Back-biters would stop back-biting! – Drunkards would stop drinking! – Coke addicts would stop snorting! – Smokers would stop smoking! – Fresh woman would lower their hems lines! – Fresh men would keep their pants on! – Old people would stop acting foolish! – Young people would stop acting crazy!

Divine Ability.
Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 1. He is able to help us. Heb 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted. 2. He is able to deliver us. Daniel 3:17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 3. He is able to save uttermost. Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 4. He is able to make more grace. II Cor 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 5.He is able to keep us falling. Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 6. He is able to restore us. Job 42:10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. 7. He is able to raise children from Idols.
Matthew 3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

Most people want to serve God, but only in an advisory capacity

Presence of the Lord.
1. Searching presence to convict. Psm 139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 2. Saving presenc eto convert. Isaiah 63:9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. 3. Separating Presence to consecrate. Psalm 31:20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. 4. Settling presence to calm Exodus 33:14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. 5. Satisfying presence to rejoice. Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. 6. Supplying Presence to refresh. Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. 7. Sanctifying presence to humble. I Cor 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound
the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

I Thess
1:5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power,
and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. Four things. 1. In word. 2. In power. 3. In Holy Ghost. 4. In Assurance.

The mistakes of the disciples of Jesus
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. - Luke 6:40 1. Panic stricken disciplesThen His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 2. Misunderstanding disciplesAnd when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. 3. Fault finding disciplesBut when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 4. Impotent disciplesSo I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.” 5. Lukewarm disciplesThen He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? 6. Unsteady disciplesBut all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” 7. Self willed disciplesThen they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them.

Jn Jn
12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor. 1. Separation. 2. Sacrifice. 3. Service.

Daniels..... I think if we looked at all the explanations of the disciples that you have put so graciously, we can all relate to probably several of their humanistic downfalls. At least I can . thanks for posting those.

The true Christian is characterised by the following:-
Vitality - "A tree" Security - "Planted" Capacity - "by the streams (canals) of water" Fertility - "that brings forth its fruit" Propriety - "in its season" Perpetuity - "its leaf also shall not wither" Prosperity - "whatsoever he does shall prosper"

What an awesome thread!
The disciples were indeed aflicted with this condition we call human weakness until two things happened First they saw Jesus Ressuerected and it was only then they began to realize that He truly had power over life and death- death was loosing it's sting Second they were baptized in the Holy Spirit- as the power of the Living God flowed in their lives they began to finally see things in a different light- the world no longer captivated thier hearts and once beholding the awesomeness of God they were no longer afraid of any man- that beig said I would like to share this: In 1Ki 19:19 Elisha received the call to follow God's path for his life and without looking back he offered up everything that had sustained him before that point- literaly sacrificing the oxen and equiptment by which he earned his keep- this left him totally dependant on God's provision 2Ki 2:1 Finds Elisha taking the first steps of his journey- he is a man in hot pursuit of his ministry and he follows Elijah to Gilgal which translated is literaly the rolling away of reproach- this is a type and foreshadowing of salvation and while it is an awesome thing some christians today make this first part of the journey but never seem to proceed any farther into God's plan for their lives- not so with Elisha for he was a man who hungered for more of God's manifest presence in his life. 2Ki 2:2 We find Elisha at his second crossroads- He had followed the man of God to Bethel and was offered a chance to stay here- Bethel litterally menas House of God and represents the church- surely Elisha would be content to hang out at church with the rest of the crowd, or would He? 2Ki 2:4 Finds Elisha at Jericho- literally a sweet fragrance- it was a place of tasting the presence of His God but even then Elisha wanted to go farther 2Ki 2:5-6 finds Elisha offered one last chance to be content with his walk and his relatioship with God. All of his friends ( the prophets and even the man of God he wa following ) encouraged him to stay and rest but his answer waa always the same- as my soul liveht, as the Lord leaveth Elisha would not be disuaded from the prize- walking in the center fo God's will for his life. 2Ki 2:12-13 Finds Elijah finally taken up- Elisha spots the mantel of his anionting falling down from heaven and literally rips of his clothes ( the last vestiges of his old life) and runs to the place were he is covered in God's presence and power 2Ki 2:14 We find Elisha declaring "were is the Lord God of Elijah and with the declaration of God's Name and power he split the river that barred his way- God's power was truly manifest in his life BUT this my friends was only the beginning ! |
