Default Drink ye all of it

Mat 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

I have a question. In the verse above, what are your opinions of how it is written? I’m focusing mainly on the words, “Drink ye all of it”
Do you think it is to be read (Drink ye) (all of it)
Or (Drink ye all) (of it)
In other words… do you think Jesus was telling “All of them” to drink of it?
Or was He telling the ones present to drink “All of it” ?
I hope you understand what I’m getting at here. If not, let me know and I’ll try to clarify myself more.
Blessings

I would say to look at other translations to get a better idea.

I have. But I prefer to stay with these three to start with. The YLT, and the two that are closest to it. I know if I start looking at all the different translations out there, it will only confuse matters. If I look hard enough at enough translations, I’ll find what I want to find, not what I need to find. That’s why I asked others opinions.

KJV
Mat 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

YLT
Mat 26:27 and having taken the cup, and having given thanks, he gave to them, saying, `Drink ye of it--all;

ASV
Mat 26:27 And he took a cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

I do not know the answer but if you look at Strongs the word is
G3956 πᾶς pas pas
And translates as

Including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole: - all (manner of, means) alway (-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no (-thing), X throughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.

So it could be either however personally I like the ISV translation for this verse but as I said I am not certain.

(ISV) Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you.

Ray's right

the Greek is: πιετε εξ αυτου παντες
The English : drink out of-it all

The word 'all' (παντες) is here nominative plural masculine, so it is clear that the all refers, not to the drink, but to the drinkers, considering that the verb 'drink' address itself to more than one person.

Also notice the 'out' (εξ) signifying the action being emphasised, rather it being quantitative, especially followed by the genetive 'of-it' (αυτου).

A bit Geeky, but I thought you may appreciate

Yes, I have all the definitions and I’ve looked at all the translations. I don’t like to get into the habit of looking at different translations until I find one that “I” like. To me, that’s an easy way out. I’m not sure what the Holy Spirit is telling me about this particular verse and I was just looking for others opinions and what is the Holy Spirit telling you.

I’m not looking for a right or wrong here. I’m just looking for opinions.

Thanks

Dean, I think Jesus was saying (drink ye all) (of it). I feel that all of them participating in the cup takes precedence over draining the cup.

In Christ, Boyd
