A skim board is a flat piece of wood shaped like a football. You must be on a tropical beach with the reall fine sand, no rocks anywhere on the beach. A big wave comes in, and hits its peak. Once it starts to receed back out down the beach. You run towards the receeding water as if you are going to chase it. You grip your board with one hand on the side, one hand on the the back tip, you throw it so it begins to skim down the beach, carried by the momentum of the wave, and gravity. No more than a split second after you've thrown it, you jump on it using as much of your running momentum as possible. You get a 5-8 second ride that ends it a jump or a flip cuased by the next wave that is on its way in.
It beats surfing in my opinion. It's much easier to learn, plus you can spend way too much time paddling out to sea or waiting for the right wave.
