Athiests are a real puzzle to me too. How can you live in a world full of miracles all around us and not be able to see intelligent design? But rather think that everything just happened. I just don't have the extreme "faith" that it takes to be an athiest.
Of course if we are an athiest then we are absolved of any moral responsibility in this life. A kind of defense mechanism that allows us to live as we please and do as we like.
One of the main reasons that I hear all of the time is "I don't believe in God because if there were a loving God he wouldn't allow such evil in the world." Well, you know the answer to that one. It's exactly the opposite.
