Sweetsurrender, you are so right! Sometimes we have to take authority over ourselves! ha!
And sometimes, God has to exert His authority over us, and show us who is in control! That can be a hard lesson to learn, sometimes. Sometimes its one we have to learn over and over.
Quitting any kind of addiction is a battle. A battle with ourselves, our flesh. We have to be strong in the Lord and do as He leads us. He knows the best way, and usually that is different for everybody.
Sometimes, there is something in ourselves that needs healing before we can tackle an addiction. I read somewhere recently that a man was struggling with his weight. He prayed and prayed, tried and tried. It wasnt until God had him confront himself about his sin of gluttony that he was able to finally have victory over his weight.
There may be hurts and wounds hidden in our hearts that have to be exposed to His light and healed before the battle can begin. That's why it is so important to seek God and get His direction. That is also why I dont push people to quit. Its all in HIS timing. But when they are ready, we'll be here to encourage and support.
