Just a Thought
I was rocking a little one to sleep the other day at work. Maddy was so sleepy that she was a bit cranky. And, she's getting old enough now to fight sleep. She would rear her little back and try to roll her eyes as far up, so they'd not go shut. Even when they did go shut, she'd be humming or figittingwith her fingers to keep herself awake.
Maddy is a loving child who usually is eager to please. However, she has been learning a lot from the other babies, to rebel a little. Or, perhaps, it is just in all of us to rebel a little. So, knowing it would be best for her to take a nap, I had to show her who was boss and that I had the authority, not her.
I could not gently say, "Com on, Maddy, it's time to get to sleep now." No, I had to be stern and she had to learn that by my attitude. I had to show her who was in control of the situation and be confident of who would win this battle.
It became a a real lesson to me about our spiritual battles and how we can be confident that, through God, we will win out battles. Instead of whimpering, "Why can't I ever overcome?"
With the knowledge that we have the Holy Spirit to back us up, we can declare: "I will conquer this in Jesus' name!"
