smellycat could have not put it simpler, we are told that if we ask the spirit (or thought in our mind):
Did Jesus (the Son of God) come in the flesh and die for our sins?
-It says yes, it is of God
or you talking to yourself
-If it says no, it is of the evil one and his minions
-One more thing, sharpen your Sword of the Holy Spirit by reading the bible, take EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE TO THE WORDS OF CHRIST
This works for me except for the times when I myself respond to myself... wait for the still, calm, voice. Pray always and
remember to run to the name of Jesus, it is a strong tower!
