I believe it is up to the individual.
Humans are an intrnsic mix of body/soul and spirit, the body that lies in the ground may not be 'them' but it is the part of a loved one that we saw.
I like to make sure the place where my mum is buried is tidy and not overgrown, I visit twice a year, normally on what was her birthday in June, and at Christmas although I havent this Christmas.
I see nothing wrong with this, isnt it in a way, honouring them?
Also arent we going to be physically raised up on the last day?
I dont want my mum thinking no-one cared about where she lay!
