This would be an acurate way to render the word spirit in this particualr text and has nothing to do with reincarnation:
he shall go forth in the charecter, heart or attitude of Elias.
In modern terms you could say for example you have team spirit- or attitude.
The bible plainly declares that a man lives but once then has to face judgement either in Christ or out of Christ- this flatly refutes reincarnation.
