INITIAL ADVISORY - Sub Tropical System - GABRIELLE, 06:00 Hrs CDT-USA, 08 September 2007
This is one of the disturbed weather areas that we have been watching closely for the past week. This storm is centered 300 miles southeast of Cape Lookout, North Carolina and is moving west northwest at 12 MPH.
As this storm gets better organized, it will produce rainfall in parts of COASTAL South Carolina and most of COASTAL North Carolina to upwards of 6 inches with strong, gusty winds. There will be high surf to 15 feet and strong rip currents may be present from near the Florida/Georgia line up to near Ocean City, Maryland.
Current sustained winds are just over 45 MPH with gusts to near 65 MPH. This storm will intensify over the next 24 hours but is not expected to reach hurricane force at this time. Persons from coastal areas near Savannah, Georgia, to the Maryland / Delaware line are being asked to monitor local conditions and to anticipate some flooding rains and gusty winds over the next 3 to 4 days.
