For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Eph. 2:8-9 (ESV)
'Salvation is conditioned solely on faith in Jesus Christ. Nearly 200 times faith, or belief, is stated as the single condition in the N.T. (
John 1:12;
Acts 16:31). That faith must be placed in Christ as one's substitute for and Saviour from sin' (p. 1950, Ryrie Study Bible, Moody Press, 1978).
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31
We are not saved by:
faith PLUS works;
faith PLUS surrender;
faith PLUS baptism;
faith PLUS repentance ("a false addition to faith when understood as a prerequisite, requiring the cleansing of the life in order to be saved" (Ryre Study Bible);
faith PLUS confession.
We are saved by grace through faith plus nothing.
