I actually wrote a lengthy reply and it vanished when I tried to modify it!

I am all for helping everyone in need, no matter their location.
But I do agree with what you are saying.

The Bible says that a man who does not take care of his own family is worse than an unbeliever.
Extend that a step further.
There are people right under our noses in need.
A church who does not take care of their needy is not following Christ's commandments.
He tells us to take care of the poor, the widows, and so on.

It is terribly sad when a church member is faithful to the services and is driving on dangerous tires because they can't afford new ones.
Or a member can't get a painful tooth fixed because they have no dental insurance.
Or can't buy their medication.
There are members, children and adults both, whose shoes are falling off their feet and wear the same 2 outfits to church while other members are dressing in the most expensive and elaborate apparel they can buy.
I have seen the poor and less educated looked down on and snubbed more than I have seen them helped.
Each of us is one person who can make a difference though.
There is no one to stop us, as
individuals, from helping those around us.
