I paid the (some of the) taxes that I owe with our check. As a minister, I am self employed, in other words, I owe lots of money at the end of the year.

Boanerges made a great point,
Quote:
In the USA all the government can do is to give you your own money back. They have nothing to "give" unless they first take it from someone.
Fuel prices here in the US have quadrupeled in the last 3 years, and no, it has nothing at all to do with the war in Iraq or any of that other alphabet channel talking head rhetoric.

Fuel is taxed heavily in the United States, as is everything else. With the increase in the cost of fuel, the cost of shipping also goes up. That means we are also paying higher prices, due to taxation , for copper, food, transportation, you name it, and the federal government makes the biggest profit from the taxation of all of these resources.

I will follow the "proper" example of Pastor Gary, and I will not mention any political affiliations, but the stimulus checks are indeed a slap in the face to all Americans.

It's just sickening.

Imagine someone sticking a gun in your back, stealing your wallet, and then giving you back $20.00 from it to take a cab home.
(Would you thank them for the kind gesture?)

Interestingly enough, and this proves my point, this is an election year. Our elections are in two months, and guess what???

Are we still at war? Yep.
Have the troops come home? Nope.
Can we drill for our own oil? Nope.
Have we built any refineries? (the real problem) Nope.

But guess what? Gas has gone from $4.50 a gallon, to under $3.50 a gallon in the last month. And will continue to decrease up to and untill the November elections.

God is being stripped from our schools and from our government, some states are no longer even allowed to teach creationism any longer in public school. Major US food corporations are building Islamic prayer rooms, yet Christian prayer in a public workplace is a violation of the "civil" rights of non-Christians.

It is called taxation without representation, and with all due respect to my beloved brothers and sisters in England, this is exactly what our forefathers fled, fought, and died to prevent from happening here.

........WHEW!!! (Sorry for the rant.) Well, anyway,.... THAT, is what I did with my check......

I paid some of my taxes.
