I've told my mom that I put aside money for my passing. I have a will and my last wishes recorded just in case. I also told them that I don't want anybody to stand in line for a funeral loan - my tribe gives funeral loans to people who need it during deaths on the reservation.

Those funeral loans have caused more grief than helping. People get angry with each other...so-and-so should have just given their funeral loan to so-and-so because he hardly knew them! They're just going to spend their funeral loan on nonsense! There's bickering about who bought food and how much it cost. Who paid for this and who paid for that.

I hate going to funerals for that reason.

Our traditional funerals last for three days and three nights. It's very exhausting. My grandpa died on 9/11 (yes that one). I was living in Vancouver and traveled home for that one. Oh, man! Bickering, quarelling, hurt feelings. He was a politically powerful man, you know, and he was the Bishop of the Church. He was best friends with Governor Vic Atiyeh, and he got along great with Reagan. He had a strong belief in Jesus and God. I don't think he would have wanted to have seen any of what happened at his funeral, it was shameful.

Anyways...these bodies of ours, they all go back to dust no matter what.
