Perhaps blind to the world that is beyond this one. But that does not mean they are blind to the systems that God has set up. But I do not feel that it is necessary to understand the creator in order to understand and use the systems he created in order to benefit mankind.

I must disagree with you here. There has not really been a massive flux of belief in God in the scientific community lately, it really has always been like this (majority of scientists now and in the past have had a belief in God). The theory of common descent actually holds well with the evidence that comes from the fossil records and our understanding of the world. Evolution, however, is fact as it has been viewed so many times in labs and in field research. Darwin's theory of evolution (including common descent) is still very questionable but I would say that common ancestry is looking to fit the evidence. Darwin was no doubt wrong about many factors of evolution though and he is known mainly just to be the person who suggested the basic idea of common descent and concepts of evolution. But going back to what you said about scientists believing in creation... Yes, it is true that many believe in a creation but they are still mainly old earth believers that do not think Genesis is to be taken literally.
