I don't understand how heaven can be a place of everlasting bliss when I will know that my grandfather who I love dearly is not there.

Not to make light on the situation, but you will not remember the former things in this life, and I believe this includes those that we have loved but denied Christ and been cast into outter darkness..
Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
Today is the day of salvation and all you can do is continue to pray for your Grandfather's salvation. Once he steps in eternity, he has no chance of taking this journey again..
