Hey Granny,
I will try to summarize our sermon for you …. Titled .....“ On Fire for God “ Taken from 1 John 1:8 – 2:2
Before ascending to heaven , Jesus told His disciples that they would receive the power of the Holy Spirit ( Acts 1: 8 ) , so that through them, His ministry would continue. This power of the Holy Spirit was not only for a few apostles, but even for those who were just afar off; even for us today. Some ask “ But wasn’t this power just for the privileged in the first century ? No , Read the Great Commission as recorded in Mark 16:15-16, and you will see it is for all those who believe.
The heritage of the church is to be so equipped with power that God can lay hand on any member at any time to do His perfect will. There is no stopping point in the “ Spirit –filled life" . We begin at the cross , the place of disgrace, shame and death, and that very death brings power of resurrection life. Then, being filled with the Holy Spirit, we go from “ glory to glory’
Acts 1: 8 says “ you will receive power, after the Holy Spirit comes on you “. The scripture is clear- once we are baptized with God’s Holy Spirit we have received a Powerful gift. A gift that enables us to pray with authority; to share our faith with non- believers; to pray for the sick expecting them to be healed and to grow more Christ – like every day . We need this experience every morning upon waking. “ Don’t leave home without it “
1 John 1-8 says we have to acknowledge that we have weaknesses. We sin every day and no one is perfect. Definition of sin is described from a term in archery “ missing the
mark “
We need to confess and receive forgiveness. And empty ourselves of pride.
Our standard is to be more like Jesus.
